About Neil’s Plant
Neil’s plant hire is a family run business and we pride ourselves in offering a personal, knowledgeable and reliable service.
Neil Whatling founded Neil’s Plant in 1987. His first machine was a 3C backhoe loader which he operated himself. Expansion followed a few years later when he bought his first tracked machine, a second hand Cat 215, then one of the first Cat 428’s. After being awarded a contract for gravel extraction and delivery to the new A14 construction the fleet starting to grow and has continued to do so, with now 25 machines.
Neil & his wife are directors of the company and have a real passion for the industry. Lyn runs the office operation and the fantastic Simon Lewis oversees day to day running of the sites. Simon is also the plant manager for the fleet of 25 earth moving machines from Cat D8N to a 6×6 motor grader. Lyn’s son Terry also works for the business and they’re all supervised by the boss – Hattie, their Jack Russell cross.
Being a family run business in no way means we’re small, our customer list includes large national companies such as Aggregate Industries, Hanson, SITA UK and the Forestry Commission.
“It was a pleasure to work with Neil’s Plant, the contractor for restoration earthworks at Paxton Pits, Cambridgeshire.
The staff readily grasped the principles underlying creation of shallow and topographically diverse shorelines, construction of islands for breeding waders and other wetland features (ponds, marsh, etc), and they contributed expertise, enthusiasm and ideas for achieving the best outcome within available resources.”
